Lychee (pronounced “lie-chee” or “lee-chee”) is noted for not only its taste and versatility, but for its aesthetic; the ruby fruit is certainly memorable with its textured covering. Lychee fruit is categorized as a drupe, which is also known as stone fruit. Stone fruits get their name from having one large pit at the center, resembling a small stone, instead of tiny edible seeds like most fruit.
